How we make money

uFIRE is free for readers. Here's exactly how we pay for it, and the promises we make.

Last updated October 5, 2026

Today

uFIRE's only possible income today is one affiliate program: Amazon Associates. The “See it on Amazon” links on our reading list of FIRE books (and its preview in the uFIRE Store) are affiliate links. If you buy through one, uFIRE may earn a small fee, at no extra cost to you. Each link is labelled.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

There are no ads and no paid partners on this site, and no one paid to be on the reading list. When that changes, we'll update this page first, and list each partner by name.

How we plan to pay for uFIRE

Readers will never pay us. Instead, uFIRE plans to earn money in these ways:

  • Partner listings and introductions

Licensed Medicare and health insurance agents, and fee-only financial advisors, may pay a flat fee to be listed on uFIRE, and agents a flat fee when someone chooses them and asks for an introduction. The fee is the same whatever the person decides to buy. We will never take a share of a commission.

  • Advertising and sponsorships

Labelled ads on stories, guides and lessons, and later in the weekly email.

  • Affiliate links

This has started with Amazon links to books (see “Today” above). Later, other companies, such as account trackers or savings accounts, may pay us when someone signs up through our link. Each one will carry a label: “uFIRE may earn a fee.” Most will live on the “Things we recommend” shelves of the uFIRE Store, under its affiliate disclosure.

  • Our own products

The uFIRE Store may one day sell things we make ourselves. Nothing is for sale yet. Everything else on uFIRE stays free.

Apart from the Amazon book links, none of these will start until each program has been reviewed, including by an attorney where needed.

Who runs uFIRE

uFIRE was founded by Matt W, an orthodontist. Matt W isn't an insurance agent or financial adviser, and uFIRE doesn't sell insurance or investments. More about uFIRE.
