Our promises

• We never sell your information to anyone, including lead buyers.
• We never give your email to agents, advisors, advertisers or anyone who would market to you. We share it only with the services that store, carry and deliver it for us: Supabase, Vercel and Resend.
• Sending us a story never leads to a sales call or email.
• You can ask us to delete what you've sent us at any time.

What we collect

When you share a story

We keep what you type into the story form: the name you want shown, your email, the answers you choose to give, any optional details (like age range, city or number ranges), and which permission boxes you checked, with the exact wording and the time you agreed.

Your email is used only to follow up about your story, send you the edited version to approve, and handle any removal request. It is never published.

When you add a dream to the Dreamboard

We keep what you type into the Dreamboard form: the name you want shown, your dream, the category and age range if you chose them, and the exact permission wording you agreed to, with the time. We don't ask for your email. If we publish your dream, the name, dream, category and age range are shown on the Dreamboard.

When you suggest a guest or ask to be interviewed

We keep what you type into the interview form: your name, your email if you gave one, what you told us, the person you suggested and where to learn about them (if you're suggesting someone), any optional choices, and the exact wording you agreed to, with the time. We use it only to consider and arrange interviews. None of it is published. An email is required if you ask to be interviewed, so we can reach you, and optional if you suggest someone else.

If we reach out to someone you suggested, we do it through public channels such as their website. If you become a guest, we'll ask for your written OK before anything is recorded or published.

When you join the weekly email (Kindling)

We keep your email address, the page you signed up on (and which free download, if any, you asked for), the exact wording you agreed to and when, and whether and when you confirmed or unsubscribed. We use it only to send Kindling, the weekly uFIRE email.

Before the first issue, we email you a link to confirm the address is yours; until you click it, you won't get the weekly email.

To stop, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any issue. It opens a page on uFIRE with one button; press it to confirm, and no more issues will be sent to you. Many email apps, such as Gmail and Apple Mail, also show their own Unsubscribe button next to our name, which works with one click. You can also write to stories@ufire.ai at any time and we'll remove you. We keep a record of which issues were sent to you, so nobody gets the same one twice.

The emails are delivered by an email service, Resend, which receives your email address for that purpose only. Kindling emails have no tracking pixels and no tracked links: we don't record whether you open them or what you click.

When you ask for Retirement Timing Meter alerts

We keep your email address, the optional details you chose to give (target retirement year, a rough portfolio range, and savings compared with yearly spending), the page you signed up on, and the exact wording you agreed to, with the time. We use it only for alerts about the Retirement Timing Meter. It isn't the weekly email. First we email you a link to confirm; nothing more arrives unless you do. After that, we email only when the meter moves to a new risk level, through our email provider, Resend, with no tracking pixels or tracked links. Every alert has a one-click unsubscribe link, or write to stories@ufire.ai any time to be removed.

To block spam

When you send a story, a dream, an interview request or an alert sign-up, we keep a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your internet address so we can limit how many one connection sends in an hour. We can't turn it back into your actual address.

Drafts on your own device

While you write a story, the form saves a draft in your own web browser, on your own device, so you don't lose your words. That draft isn't sent to us until you press Send, and it's cleared once your story arrives. You can also clear it yourself with the “Clear and start over” button.

Cookies and tracking

Right now uFIRE uses no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no analytics. If we add analytics or advertising later, we'll update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Our links to uFIRE on LinkedIn, X and Facebook are plain links, not embedded buttons, so those companies learn nothing from your visit here unless you click. Once you're on their sites, their own privacy policies apply.

Where your information is kept, and who handles it

Stories, dreams, interview requests, email sign-ups and alert sign-ups are stored in a private database run by our database provider, Supabase. Only uFIRE can read them; nothing you send is publicly visible unless it's a story you've approved for publishing or a dream you gave us permission to publish.

A few services handle your information only so the site and emails can work, and not for their own marketing:

• Supabase stores what you send us, including your email address.
• Resend delivers our emails (the Kindling confirmation and weekly issues), so it receives your email address.
• Vercel hosts the website, so the forms you send pass through its servers on the way to our database.

We don't share your email with anyone else.

Removal and deletion

To have your story taken down, or anything you've sent us deleted, write to stories@ufire.ai from the email address you used. A published story comes down right away, and we delete the record within 30 days.

For a dream, write to the same address with the name you used and a few words of the dream, so we can find it. Because we don't collect an email with dreams, we'll take down any dream on request.

For an interview request or guest suggestion, write to the same address with the name you used, and we'll delete it.

Affiliate links

If you click an affiliate link on uFIRE, such as in the uFIRE reading list, the company on the other end may use cookies to know you came from uFIRE. That company's own privacy policy applies on its site.

Today, uFIRE's only affiliate links are the “See it on Amazon” links on our reading list of FIRE books and book reviews, through the Amazon Associates program. When you click one, the link carries uFIRE's Associates tag, and Amazon may set cookies on its own site to credit uFIRE for a purchase. uFIRE itself sets no cookies and learns nothing about you from the click. Amazon's reports show us which items were bought through our links, never who bought them. Amazon's privacy notice applies on amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate uFIRE earns from qualifying purchases.

Children

uFIRE is meant for adults. Story submissions are only accepted from people 18 or older.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
