I started uFIRE because I believe financial independence is for everyone. Everyone's road looks different, and that's the point of uFIRE.
FIRE is for everyone
Financial independence isn't only for people with tech salaries or big incomes. It's for employees and business owners. It's for firefighters, teachers, nurses and electricians. It's for people starting from zero and people starting in debt.
The steps are simple to say and hard to do. Spend less than you earn. Clear expensive debt. Invest for the long run. Give it time. None of that depends on what you do for a living.
Plans change
Life doesn't follow a spreadsheet. Costs rise. Families grow and change. Plans that worked for years can stop working. That doesn't mean you failed. It means it's time for a new plan.
I've come to believe in retiring at specific times, for specific things. Freedom can come in seasons.
Money is the easier part
The harder question is what the freedom is for. Time with the people you love. Health. Work you'd do even if you didn't need the money. A way to help.
Knowing your reason makes the saving years easier. It also makes the free years better.
Your turn
Some people get there early. Some get there late. Some change course along the way.
If you've retired, are getting close, or had to change your plans along the way, I'd love to hear your story. What worked? What surprised you? What would you tell your younger self?
It takes a few minutes, you don't need an account, and you can use a pen name.
When could you be free?
Your savings, your spending, your pace. Free, and nothing is saved.
